Community Service

The AAS Community Service Learning (CSL) program was established in 1995 and started as a simple initiative of a teacher who supported an orphanage in Bulgaria. Fourteen years later it grew to a complex and broad program of activities in which AAS students and staff take part on a volunteer basis. Today, the CSL program is widely integrated into the main school curriculum and still inspires students, teachers and parents to volunteer. In addition to the traditional CSL an environmental program is developing and expanding.

Our Main Goal: Educating the heart is as important as educating the brain. CSL instills in students, teachers and staff, respect and tolerance for others, an understanding and caring attitude, and confidence that they can positively contribute to a better world.

The places we have been supporting through the years: Hospice “Milosardie”, Faith, Hope and Love Center for Street Children, Baby Orphanage in Mladost, Baby Orphanage in Zone B-5, Elderly Peoples Home in Zone B5, School for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired in Buckston, 75 School for Roma children in Faculteta, “Alexandrovska” Children’s Pulmonology Hospital; Pancharevo State School, the State school in Gnilyane, Children’s Cancer Hospital in Sofia.

How do we plan: Every year a committee of volunteers draft a community service calendar of events for the school year. Committee shares ideas with the rest of the staff, brainstorm ideas among students and later assists with coordinating the activities through the school years.
