AAS-Planted Forest is Thriving!

In 2001, after a strong storm in the areas of Bistrishko branishte and Golden Bridges on Vitosha mountain, many trees were affected by the bark beetles. Subsequently, there were several  stages of reforestation done predominantly by volunteers in an attempt to restore the forest.

In 2007 and 2008 AAS took part in the reforestation effort, as students from Grades 3/4 planted over 1500 seedlings near Momina Skala, Vitosha Mountain.

AAS students and their teachers actively contributed not only by planting new trees, but also by collecting funds, paying educational visits to the newly planted forest and running campaigns to educate the community.

Last weekend, as our IB coordinator Ms. Belivanova was on one of her regular Vitosha hikes, she was happy to discover that fourteen years after the collective AAS effort, ‘our’ forest is thriving!
