Recently our HS English Teacher Nellie Bridge participated in the International Poetry Festival (Festival Internacional de Poesia de Santiago) *POETRY IN THE CHAOS OF THE PRESENT* online along with other contemporary American authors.
Nellie shares that she has been writing poems for a long time. As a child, she loved the songs her mother sang to her, and remembers being very moved by a Langston Hughes poem on the wall of her fourth-grade classroom. In high school, she was inspired by Emily Dickinson, Stephen Crane, and Richard Brautigan. In 2001, Nellie attended NYU’s graduate program in creative writing, where she collaborated with many great teachers and peers.
