Here is what Miss D. shares about Robotics and the CEESA MS Lego Robotics Tournament last Friday.
“Robotics is kind of special in that each year students have to learn a whole set of new missions (16 this year in Cargo Connect) and the rules that go with those missions.
They also have to learn how to program – and this year Lego has switched to a new programming language called EV3 Classroom – so that was all new
AND they have to learn how to build to create an efficient robot that can do a variety of tasks.
Programing and building all come together when the team has 2 and а half minutes to solve as many of the 16 missions as possible. 2 and a half minutes and it is all over until the next match.
AND since we didn’t have robotics last year we had only one student with experience with the tournament. Thankfully we had a special assistant coach this year – coach Stevie who has been doing lego robotics since he was in middle school.
We are super fortunate that robotics can run as a virtual tournament and last Friday we competed in the CEESA MS Lego robotics tournament – maybe some of you saw parts of it on the big screen in the MS HS reception area?. We finished in the middle of the pack in a field of 20 teams. This group of students before you came together in a wonderful spirit of gracious professionalism – truly inspiring – supporting each other, learning the serious bits and celebrating when they achieved a mission and looking after each other when disappointments happened. Robotics tournaments are INTENSE. And students had to compete over the course of 10 hours – exhausting :)”
