“What was the Roman Forum in Plovdiv used for?”
“ Where was the Roman library situated?”
“What was the Roman name of the city?”
These and many other questions were asked during the grade 5 field trip to Plovdiv in relation to the Social Studies unit “Why Live in Bulgaria?” The students visited the Roman stadium, amphitheatre and city wall remains and explored the various geographic, economic, social and political factors that influenced where and how people lived in what is present day Bulgaria.
The next day in class, students had the chance to make their own ancient Roman coins from clay.
Special thanks to our PTO, who provided the transport to Plovdiv and made this wonderful experience possible!
