Boryana Dzhambazova, a Bulgarian freelance journalist who’s worked for Politico, The Economist, and The New York Times, among others, spoke with 9th and 10th grade students on November 25. Ms. Dzambazova has reported on a wide range of topics from Balkan elections to nightlife in Sofia. She began by explaining some basic principles of journalism, such as the difference between news and opinion, what makes a story newsworthy, and what an editor’s job is.
Students then participated in a Q&A, where they asked questions like: 

• Where do you get your information from?
• How do you check if the information is reliable?
• Is it a stressful job? If yes, how do you manage to deal with all the stress?
• How has COVID affected your work?
• Have you ever been threatened to stay quiet when investigating something?
• Do you feel like you have a lot of influence on what people think?
