Introduce yourself using three words only, please.
Kiwi, PE teacher.
What would you be if you weren’t a teacher?
A builder.
Why did you decide to become a teacher? For how long have you worked in education?
Fast approaching the 10 year mark… I wanted to become a PE teacher because that was my favorite subject at school. I also really enjoy coaching, so it felt like a natural pathway for me.
What do you love most about your job?
No two days are the same. You are always surrounded by people. I get to learn too. I love it when a student thinks of something completely outside the box.
Why did you choose AAS and what are your expectations?
I wanted to challenge myself and push myself out of my comfort zone. I have never lived outside of NZ so it has always been a goal of mine to live and work in a different country. AAS is a great school and I am very grateful to be working here.
How is AAS different from your previous school?
AAS is in a city! My previous school was in a small farming town. The weather shift, snow, and absence of constant weather talks are notable changes. I really like the way the teachers stand in the hallways in the mornings, that is a really nice touch. I don’t miss having a school bell!
Please, share an important lesson you learned from your work with students.
Above all else, be kind.
