Teacher Spotlight: Yasmeen Pelayo

We continue our rubric with Yasmeen Pelayo, our Kindergarten teacher.
Introduce yourself using three words only, please.
Risk-taker, Foodie, Joyful
What’s something most people may not know about you?
I can speak four languages.
Why did you decide to become a teacher? For how long have you worked in education?
I have been in education for only four years! I have always had an interest in learning languages and helping others do the same. I became a Spanish teacher in a dual language community in order to serve that purpose and am excited to continue this type of education internationally.
What do you love most about your job?
I love how unpredictable kindergarten conversations can be.
Why did you choose AAS and what are your expectations?
I loved the way everyone on the interview team talked about their school and their host country. Their joy and excitement made me want to continue to grow my profession alongside them.
How is AAS different from your previous school?
My previous school in the states was predominantly made up of Spanish, Taishanese and Mandarin speakers, so being a part of a community with many more cultures and languages like AAS has been a big change. My previous school was exclusively an elementary school, so it has been fun to be a part of a larger school community.
